What ever happened to the Grand Ole Party of my parents? Though it always had its differences with the other party, as it should, it had in common with Democrats a love of country, respect for the rule of law and unwavering support for democracy. When did the Republican party forget the “United” part of our name and start using hate and misinformation as campaign tactics to divide us and undermine our trust in elections and majority rule? When did getting elected become more important than love of country?
Neither the Republican nor Democrat Party is the same as our parents once knew.
In fact, I'd say they would both be unrecognizable to our parents.
That's why it's more important than ever to stay informed and seek out as many non-corporate information sources as possible, and maintain a touch of cynicism along with a bit of skepticism.
Politics is a rough game and neither side plays fair. The only thing that remains constant is the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. When we push those aside and devalue them, that's when we need to get nervous.
Lastly, try to keep your eyes, ears, and mind open to the truth when it shows itself.
