To the editor:

In a recent column, Bill Marvel referred to the youngest adults of our time as having “psychological fragility.” I am honored to know a 19-year-old that has more emotional intelligence than most adults I know over the age of 50. This young adult had experienced more abuse, neglect, frustration and disappointment by the age of 10 than most people have probably endured in their entire lives. They were quickly forced to grow up emotionally - to learn what to do to avoid parental abuse and how to navigate the neglect of the foster system until they found stability.
