My name is Annie Gehring, and I am running to be your next state representative for Carroll County District 4, which covers Wakefield, Brookfield, Effingham, Eaton and Freedom. I have lived in Wakefield, Carroll County, for 43 years and am retired after 25 years as a reading specialist. I currently serve as a member of the Wakefield School Board and the Wakefield Heritage Commission. My life's work has been investing in our community's future.
My political journey reflects how many of you feel. I was a registered Republican until around 2009, when I felt the party had shifted. I became an independent to focus on people, not platforms. In 2016, knowing I needed to get more involved to make a difference, I joined the Democratic Party. But let me be entirely clear: I am not running to represent a political party. I am running to represent all the people of Carroll County District 4.
Other than the predictable, standard blather of "lowering property taxes, improving the flow of state money to the towns, increasing affordable housing, improving medical insurance options and improving the monitoring of our lakes.", I couldn't find anything about your political positions that would compel someone to either vote or not vote for you. You have no apparent stance on the issues of the day that I could find.
Other than the fact that you are running as a Democrat, which these days could mean anything from free healthcare for all to boys in girls' sports, or your feelings about Socialism, and your stance on Israel's right to exist.
Maybe you can let the people know where you stand on these Democrat Party issues.
