To the editor:Does anyone remember the TV show "Queen for a Day?" It was before my time as it aired in the 50s and early 60s. Basically, the contestant with the worst luck and best sob story won over the audience and were showered with gifts and made "Queen for a Day." Well, it appears that they were attempting to resurrect the show in Fort Myers, Fla. this week. The Anointed One was there to reach out to the masses, promoting his stealfromus plan. It soon became difficult to tell if this was a town hall meeting or a religious revival, replete with healing and revelry. Many people shared their sob stories about the bad things happening in their lives. Our first contestant was a woman that was homeless and living in a car. The next was almost overcome with adoration for the messiah. He has worked for McDonalds for the last 4 1/2 years, and is attending college. He wanted to know what the president planned to do to make people like myself get better benefits. Our final contestant was a man who recently lost his job, lamenting that he went from making $3,000 per month, and now on unemployment, hes getting $1,100. He wanted to know what the savior was going to do about increasing unemployment compensation so that he can once again make the $3,000 per month that he was making before his job loss. This is why this man was elected. All of these people wanted to know what their government was going to do to compel the countrys taxpayers and businesses to help them. Please tell me that someone else sees the horrifying wrongness of all of this. I am not without compassion and sympathy for these folks. But not one person stepped forward with the question of how we were going to pay for all of it. No, the crowd was full of "I need," "I want," and "gimme, gimme." It was appalling. To their chagrin, the crowd didnt get the answers they wanted. Obama sympathized with the downtrodden, and offered eloquent yet vague evasions on how the spendulous would help them. They really didnt like the woman who asked how he can expect his administration to set an example and have credibility when cabinet members dont pay their taxes. She was booed almost into oblivion until Mr. Obama cut in and told her that Mr. Geithner made a mistake and if he excluded everyone with mistakes in their past from consideration for positions, there would be no one from which to choose. Hmm I wonder how forgiving our government would be if the average citizen made the same sort of "mistakes." Could it be that Obama the Omnipotent doesnt really exist?
