Choosing a subject for a column is often more difficult than the actual writing is. Much of the year there isn’t a lot of local material begging for attention, and there’s so much already being said about national or international politics and societal issues that a little of that goes a long way. Then, suddenly, several inviting topics pop up together, vying for space, and there just aren’t enough weeks to cram them all in.

That’s the way April has been this year, and almost every year, now. Since we adopted SB 2, nearly two decades ago, we Conway voters have had to hang onto our town-meeting enthusiasm well into the cruelest month, and too many individual issues crowd the town and school warrants to address them all. To avoid the monotony of a weekly rant on a similar subject, I generally select one or two items from each warrant and have to let the rest go.
