Wednesday's Daily Sun carried an interesting feature by a Kennett High senior who interviewed a 2018 graduate, now working in southern California, whose grandfather I think I knew. California has long struck me as an aberrant bubble in which logic and the laws of physics do not apply. That assessment found a measure of confirmation in the opening sentence of the article, which suggested that on the Pacific coast the sun rises in the west.
I was probably drawn to read the piece because the subject of the interview was pictured with his arm around a sea lion. He clearly shares my affection for animals, the majority of which I like more than I do most people. My regard for them extends to nearly the entire animal kingdom except rodents, but the subject of the interview does me one better, finding even those vexatious creatures worthy of protection.
