Feckless and weak?
The United States should broadly support Ukraine, but it makes no sense to go in guns blazing. No serious nation has advanced or supports that plan. No one wants nuclear war.
Instead, think about what YOU are going to do. Consider driving less or slower to conserve some fuel. This relieves pressure on world oil markets and strengthens Ukraine. Send some cash to Doctors Without Borders or the Red Cross. Speak in support of Ukraine. Criticize China and India (who "abstained" from the recent UN vote).
Feckless and weak? Only those who complain about Ukraine without taking some of these steps.

I'd say that your Op-Ed is on the mark.
Two small things though; The ever-growing elite political class and unelected bureaucracy should be included in the problem catagory.
Secondly, and really just an adjustment to an arcane phasing; "Joe 6-pack" needs an update to acknowledge the proliferation in "recreational marijuana" shops and the legalization of Pot. in general.
It appears that our political leaders like us to be too drunk, stoned, or high to care.
I think it's working too. Just look around.
