In response to the recent letter to the editor urging support for codifying the Roadless Rule into law, please allow me to provide some additional information for your readers.

Initially, the Weeks Act of 1911 allowed the federal government to purchase private land to protect watersheds, establish national forests and lay the groundwork for maintaining healthy forests.
