Reports about a U.S.-Iran peace deal have been served up in recent days as a tasting menu. Instead, it increasingly seems like a palate cleanser.

Donald Trump suggested a deal was impending. Iran said much the same. Now it seems less an agreement than an "understanding." The U.S. president promised no resolution without the elimination of the Iran nuclear threat. Negotiations on the deadly weapons are being put off for another day.

It is so disheartening to read editorial opinion from Trump skeptics. Nothing he does is right, everything is wrong.

Wouldn't it be nice for a Liberal pundit to start out with the long list of Presidents who said Iran could not have a nuclear weapon? And then go down the list to see what each president has (not) done to stop them.

Except Barack Obama. Obama freed up billions for the mullahs and he gave them a pathway to the weapon by allowing them to continue their program, playing hide-and-seek with the inspectors who were not under US control, and continuing to build up their missile stockpile and their proxies, just waiting the USA out until they were ready. Iran has been playing the long game, with the help of their "axis of evil" sponsors, China and Russia.

Once Iran announced to the world that they had their weapon, the world would be changed forever. The Middle East would at first become subservient to Iran because nobody would doubt their ability to use their weapons if desired. This is in part because they probably view such use as a pathway to martyrdom.

That is, until all of their rivals in the Middle East had their own nuclear arsenal for deterrence. And how long would that peace have lasted?

So the President who took action to degrade Iran and stop their nuclear ambitions, for however long it is, should be praised and supported, full stop. And this talk about the US political fallout is simply the Left's attempt to make it sound like Trump's actions were about politics. As Trump has made clear, politics did not enter into the equation. The Left simply can't believe it. I'm not sure why, maybe because Trump is such a gifted politician. They can't believe he is doing something to make the future world much better.

I would bet that Trump would be willing to be impeached and removed from office (giving an early gift to JD Vance) if it meant Iran would not have a nuclear weapon into the foreseeable future. That is the statesman-like stance he is taking.
