LAMBS GROVE, Iowa — Move over, soccer moms, forget about NASCAR dads and dismiss even the “bunch of childless cat ladies” that JD Vance identified — all shorthands for critical voting groups in past elections. The term with a powerful punch in this year’s midterm congressional election is “double haters.” It’s possible you’re one of them.

Fervently cultivated by both parties and a vital swing in the battle for control on Capitol Hill, these double haters aren’t exactly misanthropes, they simply believe the two parties are miscast for the politics of today, and surely for the politics of tomorrow.
