In the days leading up to July 4th I was watching the news about the fabulous parade of tall ships in New York City. I began thinking about how much I'd love to see that! I'd been beyond disgusted at President Donald dTrump's attempt to turn America's landmark birthday into a celebration of himself, and going to New York seemed like the perfect antidote to his self-aggrandizement. Scott had plans to work that weekend, but best friend Cheryl was game. She gave me carte blanche to make all plans.
The plethora of New York festivities was organized by the nonprofit Sail4th 250, and what a lineup it was! I set out to cram in as much as possible. So began "Operation Take Back Our Semi-Quincentennial" (I'll admit, it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.)
