TAMWORTH — It appears Tamworth will not be able to acquire North Country Recycling property for a new transfer station because its owner found another buyer.

On April 18, selectmen discussed a possible deal in which the town would pay $800,000 for North Country and throw in the deed for the current transfer station valued at around $350,000. Because the total cost of creating a new transfer station would exceed an appropriation of $1.4 million voters made in 2022, a special town meeting would be needed to close the deal. Having a special town meeting would require a Superior Court judge’s OK.
