CONWAY — Conway officials and residents discussed Tuesday a multimillion-dollar plan to elevate a flood-prone stretch of West Side Road to prevent residents from being cut off in large storm events and one expert said it could send water into Conway Village.

At Tuesday's Conway selectmen's meeting, an engineer from HEB presented a plan for elevating about 1,500 feet of West Side Road from Washington Street Bridge north to prevent regular washouts. Guardrail would have to be installed. The town previously secured a hazard mitigation grant covering 90 percent of eligible costs.
