CONWAY — An Albany woman is organizing a demonstration against police violence to be held Sunday at the Four Corners (located at the intersection of Route 16, Pleasant Street and Washington Street in Conway Village). The demonstration begins at 1 p.m.
The demonstration, which is being organized by Fiona Davis-Walsh, 20, and other young people, is a reaction to news events such as the killing of 46-year-old George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and more locally, the arrest of Jean Ronald Saint Preux, 34, of Albany, who was pulled out of his car by state troopers after they smashed his car window on May 20.
The police officers undoubtedly used excessive force. The assault chargers are absolutely bogus and make the police look like thirsty fools. Smashing in his car window? Really? This is the police department's policy? Did they understand that he, as a black man, was already intimidated and afraid for his life? Is this why the officers tased him?
The police need to PROTECT AND SERVE or find a new job. If they are the acting like gangsters in the community, then they need to be removed and replaced with good cops.
