Rep. David Paige (D-Conway) is seen advocating to the House Wayts and Means Committee on Jan. 28 for his bill, HB 596, which called for transparency when it comes to rooms and meals tax. (DAYMOND STEER SCREEEN SHOT)

CONWAY — A bill to show how much each town contributes to state Rooms and Meals Tax revenue, which was supported by Conway Selectman Carl Thibodeau and state Rep. David Paige of Conway was killed by a N.H. House committee Tuesday.

The rooms and meals tax is an 8.5 percent tax on lodging, restaurant meals and car rentals, revenue from which the state divvies up across the state based on population. Conway has many hotels and restaurants but only a modest year-round population of about 10,000. However, due to tourism, Conway has tens of thousands people living here at any one time.
