The Gibson Center for Senior Services held its annual five-minute candidate forum on Wednesday to give citizens an opportunity to meet and hear from as many candidates as possible before the Sept. 11 primary. Spread over two weeks, the Democrats took center stage in the meeting room on Aug. 15. The Republicans took to the podium on Wednesday. Eleven GOP candidates for county, state and national office attended on Wednesday. The following are quotes from them:

1st Congressional District Andy Sanborn of Bedford: “I stand in front of you today and ask you for a couple of things. I’m asking for your prayers as a Christian, I’m asking for your love, I’m asking for your support and I’m asking for your vote. I’m asking for a job because to me this is what this business is supposed to be about. I’m asking for that opportunity to represent you, to work for you and to fight for you to make sure that we get our agenda done. Right now we have four liberal representatives in DC that make Elizabeth Warren look like Milton Friedman. …On the campaign trail the other day, someone came up to me and said, ‘Andy, define what you’ll consider to be success as my congressman?’ I said, for me, it’s really easy. When you go home and are watching TV, I don’t care what channel you watch, and when you see all of the turmoil that’s in the swamp down there and all of the bad things that are going on, that you have one thing that comes to your mind, ‘It’s OK because Andy is looking out for us.’”
