BROWNFIELD, Maine — A 57-year-old Fryeburg man was killed in a rollover crash Tuesday night, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office said in a statement issued Wednesday morning.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, the Oxford County Communications Center received an emergency call reporting a single vehicle rollover crash on Pequawket Trail in Brownfield.
Emergency responders from Fryeburg and Hiram Fire Departments, as well as the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police, responded to the scene.
Investigation disclosed that David Chute of Fryeburg, the operator and sole occupant of a 2008 Nissan Titan pickup truck, had been traveling northbound on Pequawket Trail at a high rate of speed, the sheriff's office said. After losing control, the truck Chute was operating rolled over several times, coming to rest on its roof in the roadway.
The accident occurred in the area of 1272 Pequawket Trail between Wakefield Road and Whale Rock Lane.
During the crash, Chute was ejected from the vehicle, landing in the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It took several hours for investigators to process the crash scene. During that process, the roadway was shut down and traffic was detoured away from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
