TAMWORTH — After years of planning and preparation, the Chocorua Lake Conservancy is repairing the dam where the Chocorua River meets Little Chocorua Lake, as well as building a rock-ramp fishway that will allow aquatic species to move between the river and the lake.

According to CLC Stewardship Director Debra Marnich, the original dam was built with wood in the 1800s, which was replaced in the 1960s then repaired in the ’80s. Since then, the structure has crumbled due to freeze and thaw and other weather degradation, so it’s time for an upgrade.
