CONWAY — Most of the state continues to suffer from a drought with conditions listed as abnormally dry, according to an Oct. 31 report from the National Drought Mitigation Center. The concern extends to the White Mountain National Forest.
“It’s dry out there. The fire danger today was ‘moderate,’ but that’s only because we had some recent light rain,” Jim Innes, district ranger for the U.S. Forest Service’s Saco District, told the Sun on Monday. “When it gets dry like this after a long time of dryness, a little bit of rain doesn’t do much to ease the conditions,” he said, adding, “Fall is typically fire season so yes, we are concerned. We are doing our patrols and are being basically prepared for anything that might happen.”
