CONWAY — Only three chefs per year are inducted into the American Academy of Chefs Hall of Fame, and on July 29, retired award-winning certified executive chef Gary L. Sheldon, 75, of East Conway became one of them.

“It’s the pinnacle, the Mount Olympus of being a chef. I don’t know where else to go from here,” said Sheldon upon his return from the awards, held at Hotel Paris in Las Vegas, Nev., where he attended the ceremonies with wife, Claire, and granddaughter Jayla, the latter of whom he describes affectionately as the “best sous chef in the world.” She has been his culinary sidekick since she was a young girl and is soon off to college.
