William D. “Mack” Beal, Jr. of Jackson, died at his home on August 26, 2014. He was 90 years old.

Mack was born in Boston, Mass., April 20, 1924, the eldest son of Beatrice Starr and William D. Beal. He attended The Brooks School and Harvard University. He later trained at Columbia University’s Officer Candidate School and was selected for the submarine service seeing active duty in the South Pacific during World War II.
