A recent photograph appeared that showed a yellow school bus stuck to its axles in a muddy road somewhere in rural Vermont. A little-known fact is that, unlike New Hampshire, Vermont’s percentage of unpaved roads leads the nation at 55 percent. So springtime over to our west is a predictable carnival of running sap, tow trucks and muddy boots. That doesn’t mean that our local school buses don’t sometimes get stuck; in Vermont it just isn’t a punchline.
