There are countless times in ones life where the ego is a bit bruised, like when realization hits that you just aren’t as smart as you think you are. Last week, Hannah and I checked out the Madison Public Library’s telescope, with interest in taking in the cosmos during a fine summer evening.

After a few days of battling both weather and busy schedules, we found an evening where — ahem — the stars aligned. The telescope was setup in the backyard, and I began my search of the heavens amidst the fine weather and smoky campfire. I searched all visible parts of the sky, and was unable to pinpoint even the dimmest of stars.
