Before sitting down to write the column this week, I decided to combat those winter blues the best way I know how this time of year. With a skip in my step and a delightful song in my heart, I opened the envelopes stuffed with forms that still have that fresh W-2 smell and fired up the old tax software to get to work. Consequently, my optimistic outlook was dashed in a matter of minutes. It was replaced with a blank “how did that happen?” stare at the YOU OWE portion of my computer screen. So no, IRS, I don’t want to donate $3 to anyone’s presidential campaign.
In retrospect, this week wasn’t all that bad, in fact, it was pretty good. My beloved Patriots winning the Super Bowl is an obvious reference to recent joy, but there were other instances, too.
