lydia thorne lucy

Lydia Thorne Lucy, already an accomplished horsewoman at a young age.

Lydia Thorne Lucy, 90, passed away in her beloved West Side home in North Conway, N.H. on Feb. 13, 2019. She had the very best of care there, including some of her children very nearby. This only seems fitting because Lydia — “Aunt Lydge” or “Lydgie” to many — spent the majority of her life caring for others.

Lydia was the fourth of four children born to Margaret C. and Harold W. Thorne. She spent her early years growing up in New Canaan, Conn., and, after graduating high school from Choate, she enrolled at UNH. During this time, her parents moved full-time up to South Conway. Lydge was a standout on both the UNH ski team and rifle team (separate sports). More importantly, at UNH, she met the love of her life, Chet Lucy.
