Red Cross installs smoke alarm

BIDDEFORD, Maine, APRIL 12, 2025 — On Saturday 48 American Red Cross of Northern New England volunteers and staff teamed up with the Biddeford and Saco, Maine, fire departments to install 119 free smoke alarms for local families and promote fire alarm safety awareness during a Sound the Alarm home fire safety event throughout York County.

Steve Thomas, Red Cross Southern Maine Chapter executive director, said, “Home fires are a constant threat in our community, accounting for most of our disaster responses. Today’s efforts will make a lasting difference to help save lives and protect those who are most vulnerable.”
