TAMWORTH — Thanks to a grant from New Hampshire Humanities, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m., Richard Adams Carey will present “In the Evil Day: Individual Rights, Town Government, and the Crime that Stunned the Nation” at the Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth Village. 

Carey’s book of the same title details the events of Aug. 19, 1997, in Colebrook. When Carl Drega murdered state troopers Scott Phillips and Les Lord at a traffic stop in a supermarket parking lot and then proceeded to continue his goal of settling old scores. By the end of the day, three more were dead, Drega among them, and four people were wounded.
