Doris Fernald Cotton, 98, of North Conway, died Wednesday, March 10 at Sunbridge Care Center. She was born Feb.10, 1906 at Brookside Farm in Jackson to Leonard and Eva Davis Fernald. She was descended from Isaac Dearborn, who came to Jackson before 1800, and Daniel Elkins, who was Jackson's first minister. She attended Hackett School at the base of Black Mountain and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1923. She attended Gordon College in Boston. She was preceded in death by her husbands, the Rev. Nathan Warwick Wood, William R. Haley and Raymond C. Cotton. She is survived by her daughters, Alice Pepper and her husband John of Jackson and Nancy Banham and her husband Herbert of Dunnellon, Fla.; her son, the Rev. Nathan Fernald Wood and his wife Mary of Brockton, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. A memorial service is scheduled at Jackson Community Church on Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Jackson Community Church or Friends of Jackson Public Library.
