CONWAY — M&D Playhouse’s Theatre Arts Studio has successfully taken on the daunting task of putting on a production of “Disney’s The Lion King Jr.”

The musical — based on the popular 1994 African-set animated feature about the treacherous uncle Scar (Ethan Reinbach) who murders his brother the king Mufasa (Job Fox) and drives out the prince Simba (Liam Thompson and Luke Reinbach) — is known for its elaborate costumes, makeup, sets and the memorable score and songs by Elton John and Tim Rice. It is not an easy production for adults, let alone kids, but director Mary Bastoni-Rebmann has crafted a youth production of the highest quality.
