CONWAY — “August: Osage County,” which opened at M&D Playhouse in North Conway on Thursday with performances Thursday through Sunday for the next three weeks, is a darkly comic family drama that is both intimate and epic thanks to the big personalities of the dysfunctional Weston family.
Tracy Letts’ Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play, which was made into a film in 2013 starring Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Ewan McGregor, Juliette Lewis and Benedict Cumberbatch among others, opens with Beverly (Eddie Bennett), the patriarch of the Weston family, hiring Johnna (Kaitlyn Marshall) to help around the house.
