This is the tale of a once proud automaker. It’s an old saga, one of mismanagement and economic fluctuations that has affected other previously great brands. This is a Saab story and it’s about to close its final chapter.

Most remember Saab as a quirky Swedish automobile that began shortly after World War II and made neighboring car builder Volvo look positively normal. General Motors acquired a 50 percent share of Saab in the late ‘80s around the time Ford took control of Volvo.
