The redpoll is exactly that with a crimson smudge on his forehead, along with a black chin underneath its pointed finch’s bill. It is usually at least mid-winter when we gain a visit from these little Arctic birds, which are circumpolar in distribution.

When one is Googling for images of these small birds, it is not uncommon to find one checking out web sites from the Scandinavian countries, or the northern parts of the British Isles or Europe.
