I Feel Pretty

Rory Scovel and Amy Schumer in "I Feel Pretty." (MARK SCHAFER/STX ENTERTAINMENT)

“I Feel Pretty,” the latest film starring stand-up comedian Amy Schumer, is a well-intentioned comedy about body image that has a strong message that gets lost in long-winded awkward humor.

Schumer forgoes her abrasive comedy style in “I Feel Pretty” to play Renee Bennett, a programmer for Lily LeClaire, a high-end New York-based makeup company. Renee’s office is hidden away in a basement in Chinatown, as if she and her co-worker (Adrian Martinez) are the shame of the company. This is a perfect metaphor for how Renee sees herself.
