LACONIA — After losing 10 seniors to graduation and its leading scorer to a prep school, most prognosticators billed this as a rebuilding season for the Kennett High boys’ ice hockey team. The current flock of Eagles had other ideas, and the youngest team in Division III slowly got better and better, playing its best hockey at the end of the regular season.

In order to be the champs, you have to beat the champs, and the boys from Conway did exactly that on Saturday. Kennett, the No. 5 seed, beat No. 4 Belmont-Gilford, the defending champions, 3-1 on Saturday at the Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia to punch its ticket back to the Frozen Four.
