The Fryeburg Academy boys and girls alpine ski teams continued to handle their Western Maine Conference competition on Friday and Saturday night at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton. The girls, with 19 points, defeated Freeport (28), Lake Region (47), and Falmouth (49) in a slalom meet on Friday, and then won with 17 points in a giant slalom race against Falmouth (33), Cape Elizabeth (49) and Gray-NG (62) on Saturday. The boys, with 21 points, won their slalom race against Falmouth (30), Freeport (41) and Lake Region (67) on Friday; the boys then swept the top four spots (10 points) in a giant slalom meet against Falmouth (28), Gray-NG (68), and Cape Elizabeth (88) on Saturday.Amy Dyer continued her domination of the girls competition with two convincing wins. Dyer, skiing a combined two-run time of 1:07.28, won the slalom race by over two seconds. She won the giant slalom race with a combined time of 1:04.43, seven seconds better than second place Gray- New Gloucesters Emma Lobozzos time of 1:11.49. Elizabeth Atwood, who had a great weekend as well, finished fourth in the slalom race with a combined time of 1:11.55 and third in the giant slalom race with a time of 1:12.18. Elsie Russell finished ninth in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom race, and Bonnie Dyer finished fifth on Friday and seventh on Saturday. Meaghan Cassily finished 11th on Saturday in the giant slalom race, while Beth Lynch finished 13th. The boys team showed its phenomenal depth again on Saturday by sweeping the giant slalom race with ten points and taking seven of the top 12 places. Joe Atwood won the race with a combined time of 1:02.14; Jeff Lathrop finished second with a 1:03.04; Tim Atwood, third, in 1:04.64; and Sam Atwood, fourth, 1:04.91; Matt Bell, seventh, 1:06.85; Preston Jones, 10th, 1:11.80; and Cooper Maxwell, 12th, 1:13.43. Joe Atwood, who like Dyer swept the weekends competitions, won the slalom race on Friday night. Atwood, who finished with a 1:05.93 combined time, edged his brother Sam who took second in 1:06.62. Bell and Jones completed the scoring with sixth and 11h place finishes, respectively.
