Members of Maine's Death With Dignity PAC say they are actively looking for volunteers to collect signatures at polling places on Election Day.

The Wiscasset-based “Death With Dignity” group is renewing their efforts to place an assisted-suicide measure on the 2019 ballot. Its members announced last week that they plan on soliciting signatures on Election Day for the ongoing petition, which must collect 80,000 signatures by January to be eligible.

The proposed law would allow adult Mainers with terminal illnesses to request medication that would hasten their death. The law also includes a list of “safeguards” to ensure that the patient is acting of their own volition and doesn’t suffer from impaired judgement.
