I think about paddling a lot. I especially think about it when I am not doing it, and I really especially think about it when I am not doing it because I can’t do it. That makes me kind of crabby. Right now, I’m not paddling because I had to have some knee surgery a week or so ago. And that is because on my first kayak outing of the season, on April 23 I stepped into mud past my ankles and tore the meniscus in my right knee trying to get free.

Turns out after surgery that the knee is also very arthritic and will need to be replaced at a later date, providing me with two matching titanium joints. Anyway, enough whining about that — let’s talk about one of the major reasons I kayak.
