Cross-country skiing seems so simple. Put on your ski boots, grab your skis and poles and go ski. However, experienced skiers know that it’s not always that easy. The choices you make before you ski can determine how much you enjoy or dislike the outing. Choose the right gear and wax for the conditions and life is wonderful. Pick the wrong ski or wax and you’ll regret the journey.

I was reminded of these scenarios last week when I went skiing in Jackson. On Jan. 20, four inches of beautiful new snow had fallen. The “Wave” had just been groomed. I had to go try it for the first time this season. It was bitterly cold out, but sunny. Bundling up, I drove to the Valley Cross Road parking area.
