On a beautiful day this week, I did the 4.7-mile loop on Hedgehog Mountain (2,532 feet). It is a favorite moderate hike for those who access the peaks on the Kancamagus Highway from Conway.

That mid-morning, the 15-mile scenic drive out the Kanc went swiftly as I checked out the mood of the mountains and the ice-locked Swift River. Across from the Passaconaway Campground, I pulled left into the short driveway to parking for the UNH Trail on Mount Hedgehog, also the trailhead for the Downes Brook Trail and Mount Potash Trail.
