This spring, for the first time in its more than 40-year history, Saco Valley Anglers Trout Unlimited will not be stocking trout in the Saco River. The decision was made after several years of lengthy debate within the membership. As a group Saco Valley Anglers has committed to a new goal of promoting wild trout in the Mount Washington Valley and self-sustainable fisheries wherever possible.

Saco Valley Anglers was founded in the early 1970s as a private fishing club. From the beginning, one objective of the club was to make supplemental stockings of trout in the local rivers. For this reason, Saco Valley Anglers held annual fundraising events to raise money for the purpose of stocking trout in the Ellis and Saco River. These events have always had popular support in the valley.
