North Country Angling - unnamed pond

The pond that shall not be named is destined for trout fishing oblivion. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

Walking out of the “pond that shall not be named,” a tear came to my eye. This will be the last time there is an opening day on this pond. The State Fish and Game has plans to remove the “quality pond” designation and replace it with the general law designation for the pond. This means that there will be no closure on the pond. It will stay open all year long.

The pond received the quality label because the water quality is excellent. The pond is 48 feet deep and has a coldwater fish habitat through the warmer summer months. Water temps are 56 degrees at 38 feet. The idea was to stock the pond with 10 to 12-inch fish and let them grow to the 16-inch size before being harvested by anglers.
