North Country Angling - Grizzly King and the Wood Duck flies

The Grizzly King and the Wood Duck are two productive green body flies. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

On March 17, Saint Patrick’s Day, it is tradition to wear something green. The luck of the Irish. The four-leaf clover. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. All symbols of good fortune.

For these reasons, fly anglers have incorporated green into constructing many fly patterns. The amount of actual green seen in the wild and under the water is minimal so the use of that color in manufacturing fly patterns leans toward attractor patterns.
