With the start of trout season all around the country, social media is awash with the so called experts choices of the best flies for trout. With all the varieties of trout available to the angler coupled with the variation of geography the question needs to be asked, “Are there flies that will work no matter where trout fishing takes place?”

The quick answer is yes. If an angler filled their fly box with the Adams dry fly in sizes 10-20, Elk Hair Caddis in sizes 8-20, Hare’s Ear nymph in sizes 8-16 and Pheasant Tail nymph in sizes 12-20 you will catch trout in any water anywhere in the country. But where is the fun in that?
