To the editor:As a restaurant manager at a north country grand hotel and spa, I find myself talking with a great many concerned voters. To the individual they are all shocked that President Bush lied to them and to Congress about weapons of mass destruction and the purported "grave and imminent" threat Iraq posed to the United States. This type of outright lying is reminicient of historical precedent. In July 1974 the House Judiciary Committee voted for articles of impeachment for President Nixon for lying to the people and to Congress regarding the Watergate break-in. Within a month Nixon resigned from office. Nixon's political demise came less than two years after he won one of the largest landslide electoral victories in U.S. history. President Bush was incapable of winning the popular vote, has inacted legislation that has treated the Bill of Rights with contempt and has sought to roll-back decades of hard won civil rights and rights for working people. This president and his attorney general have claimed for themselves the authority to jail citizens and residents of the United States indefinitely, without any charge against them, without trial and without access to a lawyer. If anyone is as outraged by the gross misconduct of this administration as I am, please read the articles of impeachment of George W. Bush and Co. at www.VoteToImpeach.org. This campaign, initiated by Ramsey Clark, former attorney general under Lyndon Johnson, has been gaining great momentum around the United States. Don't wait for this appointed president to be elected out. Make him accountable for lying to the american people. Impeach now.
