The possibility of a rec trail in Ossipee took a step forward recently with the state Department of Transportation agreeing to relinquish the Conway Rail Line to the Division of Natural and Cultural Resources, which manages recreation trails. The 21-mile-long Conway Branch Line runs from West Main Street in Conway to Route 28 in Ossipee. State Rep. Jonathan Smith (R-Ossipee) who is also chair of the board of selectmen would like to see part of the Conway Branch used for a recreation trail. Opponents have said it should be used for rail again.
