To offset higher property taxes, Conway selectmen are proposing to start a paid parking program to raise revenue. Meanwhile, spending on schools, which accounts for two-thirds of our tax bills, will be going up as a new teachers’ contract will likely add $1 million over the next three years, and millions more will be spent on building repairs. Against that background, the school board failed to decide on which elementary school to close, which would save the town at least $1 million yearly.

This week’s Tele-Talk question is: What should the town do to keep taxes from going up: cut costs or add revenue-raising programs?
