The midterm elections Tuesday brought a number of changes to the local political landscape, including shifting the dominant party of the Carroll County delegation from red to blue and unseating several longtime Republican N.H. House members, including Speaker Gene Chandler of Bartlett, delegation chair Mark McConkey of Freedom and Reps. Frank McCarthy and Karen Umberger, both of Conway. Some see the shift as de facto term limits, while others are concerned the North Country has lost powerful advocates.
