Tele-Talk question: Do you have advice for selectmen on the boundary dispute, and, furthermore, should Conway retain five separate fire departments?

Two of Conway’s five fire departments are in a boundary dispute because the driveway of an adult day center under construction will sit on non-precinct land covered by the Conway Village department, while the building itself will be in Center Conway. Center Conway seeks to extend its boundary line to cover the driveway, but Conway Village objects, saying the change would increase costs on property owners in the area. Selectmen say they will decide the issue July 24 after hearing public comments. Conway Village Fire Commissioner Steve Bamsey said these types of disputes could be avoided if the town had only one fire department. County Commissioner Mark Hounsell agrees, saying it’s time to end the turf battles and have one fire department.
