To the editor:I recently held an ice cream socieal for little friend of mine, Summer Mohla. She was diagnosed with leukemia on July 9. She received treatment at Maine Medical Center for more than three weeks. Now, home and happy to be back with her family, Summer will still need to receive two more years of treatments of chemotherapy before she is in the clear. The ice cream social was a huge triumph! I cannot thank the people of this valley enough for their support in helping this event succeed to its fullest potential. I couldn't have done it alone. My friends behind the scenes deserve a round of applause. Thank you Cheryl Vien, Cathy Burke, Erin Dascoulias, Amy Blackburn, Joline Gushee, Mary Ellen and Dick Mohla and my husband, Steve Evans. They pitched in with rounding up Chinese auction items, collecting supplies for the event, and set-up and cleanup of the hall. Also, I want to make a special mention of all the parents at Evans Family Child Care and Kris George's Family Child Care for supplying all the tasty baked goods. The biggest contributors for the social were: The Little Brown Church in Conway, Abbott's Ice Cream, Bobby Sue's Ice Cream Shop. When I called these three businesses for donations, the reply was, "Just let me know how much you need and we'll take care of you." I can't tell you how refreshing that was to hear. There were also many businesses that graciously gave out donations and gift certificates for our Chinese auction. We had well over 50 items to auction off. Thank you all for your participation. They are: McDonald's, Smitty's Ice Cream Shop, Dairy Queen in Glen, Lickety Split's Ice Cream Shop, Hannaford Super Market, Shaw's Supermarket, Phaltzgraff, Office Market, Yellow Snow Dog, Studio 24/Stephanie Miller, First Stop Pizza, MWV Children's Museum, Stride Rite, The Five and Dime Store, Tarot Card Reading, Old Village Barbershop, Conway Scenic Railroad, Borders Book Store, Ham Arena, Pirates Cove Mini Golf, Movie Gallery, Tuckerman's Brewery, Eaton Village Store, Toy Chest, Cheryl's Clipper Cuts, Banner's Restaurant, The Flower Drum, White Lake Speedway, Applebee's Restaurant, Peking Restaurant, Northern Extremes Kayak Rentals, Lucy Lumber, Elvio's Pizzeria, Decades Restaurant, Wildcat Tavern, Horsefeathers Restaurant, Northland Lobster, Mount Washington Valley Mobile Vet, Glass Graphics, Zeb's Country Store, Jonathan's Seafood, Saco Canoe Rental, Lupine, Cold Stone Creamery, Muddy Moose Restaurant, Bavarian Chocolate Haus, Healthy Moves Body Massage, Synergy, Gifts of Life, Four Your Paws Only, Briar Rose, Chef's Market, Teeny Bean Coffee, Schwan's Fall Campground, Yankee Smokehouse Restaurant, Joe Jones, The Brass Heart Inn, Silver Lake Massage and Fields of Ambrosia.I am always pleasantly surprised to see the valley pull together in time of need. We all should be proud for helping such a well deserving family like the Mohlas. On a more personal note, Michael, Sarah, Gabriel and Summer: Rest, recover and, most importantly, rejoice.
