To the editor:Last fall, an exciting new educational opportunity debuted at Granite State College in Conway. The Osher Lifelong Institute (OLLI) is a membership-based organization that provides adults aged 50 and over with new and exciting classes and activities. OLLI classes consist of lectures, short courses, and other educational activities that are shaped by the members. There are no tests, no grades just learning for the fun of it.OLLI classes are offered as a spring term, starting in March and a fall term that starts in September. The terms last for eight weeks and can range from single sessions to a full eight week course. The majority of classes are held during the day at Granite State College. Some classes may be held off campus. Topics vary from the arts and literature to social issues, with many subjects in between. All classes are led by members, retired educators, and experts from the community-all volunteers with much to share.A yearly OLLI membership costs $35.00 with class fees modestly priced from $5-$30. Some classes are free. If you are 50 or over and interested in lifelong learning, consider becoming an OLLI member. To find out more about the OLLI program, to become a member, or to volunteer to teach a class, please call 447-3970."The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live."
